What is Makhana?
Fox nuts also known as makhanas is an Indian snack and very popular as a fasting food used in Navratri and other festivals. While I was young I remember my mother used to feed me a bowlful of makhanas. I hated the taste and always wondered why my mom would feed me this tasteless snack. Gladly later on she came up with a way to feed me. She would heat the makhanas on the pan in the ghee and then sprinkle a pinch of salt. Taste, crunch and yummy it’s taste is pretty much like popcorn. Time passed I grew up and realized the numerous health benefits it provides and why my mother would forcefully feed that to me!
They are very light in weight and look much like a ‘popcorn’ but they are pretty healthy. They are a super source for vitamins, minerals and fibers and have been proven to be beneficial for diabetic patients and those who have high blood pressure history.
